Ejections: Greg Gibson (4, 5)

HP Umpire Greg Gibson ejected Royals pitcher Zack Greinke for arguing a balls and strikes in the top of the 3rd inning, and Royals Manager Trey Hillman for arguing Warnings in the top of the 4th inning of the Red Sox-Royals game. In the third, with one out and none on, Red Sox center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury took three pitches in his at bat against Royals pitcher Anthony Lerew. Replays indicate one of these pitches, a called ball, was located thigh high and over the inside half of the plate, the call was incorrect. At the time of the ejection, the contest was tied, 0-0. In the fourth, with none out and none on, Lerew threw a 1-0 fastball that sailed up toward Red Sox third baseman Mike Lowell's head. Lerew had just given up a home run to the previous batter, Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz, and as a result, Gibson warned both benches. The 0-0 pitch to Lowell had also been significantly inside and high. At the time of the ejection, the Red Sox were leading, 2-0. The Red Sox ultimately won the contest, 10-3.

This is Greg Gibson (53)'s fourth and fifth ejections of 2009.

These are the 155th and 156th ejections of 2009.
This is the 65th player ejection of 2009.
This is the 81st Manager ejection of 2009.
