HP Umpire Larry Vanover ejected Cardinals pitcher Russ Springer, Manager Tony La Russa, and Third Base Coach Jose Oquendo in the 8th inning of the Phillies-Cardinals game. Springer and La Russa were ejected in the top of the 8th, after Springer hit Phillies first baseman Ryan Howard with two out and none on. Howard had earlier hit two home runs in the game. At the time of the ejections, the Phillies were leading, 17-2. Oquendo was ejected in the bottom of the 8th, when Phillies pitcher Rudy Seanez threw a pitch behind, but not hitting, the Cardinals' Brendan Ryan. Seanez was not ejected, and as Oquendo began to argue with Vanover over this non-ejection, Oquendo was ejected. At the time of this ejection, the Phillies were leading, 20-2. The Phillies ultimately won the contest, 20-2.
These are Larry Vanover (27)'s first, second, and third ejections of 2008.
