HP Umpire Brian Gorman unofficially ejected Twins right fielder Denard Span for arguing a strike three call that ended the Twins-Angels game. With two out and one on, Span took a fastball from Angels pitcher Fransisco Rodriguez for a called third strike, ending the game. Replays show the pitch was less than an inch off the outside corner, the call was incorrect. The Angels won the contest, 5-3.

This is Brian Gorman (9)'s first unofficial ejection of 2008.

This is the the seventh unofficial ejection of 2008.
Gorman has zero ejections in 2008.

An unofficial ejection is an ejection that does not appear in the box score (only ejections that appear in the box score are 'official'). An unofficial ejection might result from two umpires ejecting the same player or coach (in which case the box score dictates the umpire to be credited with the official ejection), a silent ejection that does not make it into the box score after the game, or an ejection that occurs after the final out is recorded, or run scored, to end the game, as was the case here. No ejections that occur after a game has ended appear in the box score, and as such, these ejections are unofficial.

Any other ejection that does not appear in the box score for whatever reason is deemed 'unofficial.'
