Umpire Pic
1B Umpire Jerry Crawford ejected Diamondbacks Manager A.J. Hinch for arguing an out call in the top of the 8th inning of the Diamondbacks-Nationals game. With none out and none on, Diamondbacks left fielder Trent Oeltjen hit a 2-1 fastball from Nationals pitcher Ron Villone to short. The throw to first arrived as Oeltjen ran through first base. Replays indicate the catch at first base was made after Oeltjen's foot touched the base, the call was incorrect. At the time of the ejection, the Nationals were leading, 7-5. The Nationals ultimately won the contest, 7-6.

This is Jerry Crawford (2)'s third ejection of 2009.

This is the 110th ejection of 2009.
This is the 59th Manager ejection of 2009.

Managers should know better than to try to get their money's worth with Ol' Jerry.

Jerry did indeed tear Hinch a new one and made it clear that no rookie manager is gonna mess with a 33 year veteran/legend like Jerry Crawford

This was a great argument, even though the call was bad (which is a shame because Crawford is a great umpire).

Around the 50 second mark you can see Crawford telling Hinch to "Get the f*** out of here", which is the second time this year you can visibily see an umpire tell a manager to do that (Eddie Montague told that to Charlie Manuel back in April).

I've tossed a lot of players/managers in my umpiring career, and this year for the first time I actually uttered those words to a coach. Even though I could have gotten in a lot of trouble for saying that, boy did it feel good!

I feel that Jerry Crawford was very unprofessional in this instence. He has already had three ejections in three weeks and has gotten into heated arguments with Joey Votto and AJ Hinch. He needs to show his veteran leadership and not get into arguments like this one.

Jerry Crawford is a good veteran ump, but I feel like he was very unprofessional during this argument. He is on a hot streak with 3 ejections in 2 weeks and has handled 2 of them horribly. he kept the argument going with Joey Votto for far too long and did not need to retaliate at AJ Hinch. He has got to show that he is a good veteran Ump and not get into these useless arguments.
