Fill In (AAA) Umpire of the Year: Dan Bellino (93)
Dan Bellino is the Umpire Fantasy League's 2010 fill in (AAA) umpire of the year. In his 2nd Major League Baseball umpiring season, Bellino finished the 2010 season with four regular season ejections, one pre-season ejection, and a 100% accuracy rating (4/4 + 1/1 = 5/5). Bellino spent a majority of 2010 on Joe West's crew and appeared as a valuable fourth umpire in any other's absence. Notably, Bellino correctly and emphatically ruled obstruction during the June 5 contest between the Reds and Nationals
. With none out, Reds baserunner Brandon Phillips made contact with Nationals shortstop Ian Desmond as Phillips rounded second base. 3B Umpire Bellino correctly pointed to the obstruction while keeping the play alive, and when a play was made on Phillips at third base, Bellino waved off the apparent tag out, pointing to the obstruction which had taken place, and awarding Phillips third base on the violation. Bellino's first career ejection occurred this year.
Dan Bellino (93) now has 22 points in the Umpire Ejection Fantasy League.
The next postseason award, Honorable Umpire, will be released overnight.
